Frequently asked questions
Our application support often finds generic answers to specific questions. Here is a continuously updated list of frequently asked questions and their answers. Naturally, you are welcome to contact us directly with any questions you may have.
1. Do you have any samples available of HyaCare®?
Yes we do – we are always interested in sampling and thus, we can offer samples for both commercial and experimental use. If you are interested in a sample please contact us here and describe the purpose and application of interest. We look forward to hearing from you!
2. Do you manufacture any final applications?
No, Novozymes Biopolymer manufactures and supplies HA as an ingredient for medi-cal devices and pharmaceutical applications
3. Do you crosslink sodium hyaluronate (HA)?
We do not supply HyaCare crosslinked. We do though have a state-of-the-art cross-linking technology available for outsourcing – please contact us here for further information.
4. Do you supply HyaCare for food or dietary supplements?
We focus all our efforts on the medical device and pharmaceutical areas in order to offer our customers and partners the best possible support. Thus, we do not supply for food or dietary supplements.
5. How can we improve the solubilization time of sodium hyaluronate (HA) in formulations?
To dissolve HA faster it is recommended to add the HA powder to the solution and increase temperature to max 60 °C (140 °F) while careful mixing.
6. What is the solubility of sodium hyaluronate (HA) in organic solvents?
Generally, HA is not soluble in common organic solvent (e.g. acetone) due to its high hydrophilicity. However, it can be solubilized in aqueous ethanol (up to 70%), in buty-lene glycerol, and in propylene glycol and others.
7. What degrades sodium hyaluronate (HA)?
HA molecules can be degraded by the action of enzymes (Hyaluronidase or lyases), by chemical means (acidic, basic, oxidative degradation), mechanical (ultrasound) or by physical (irradiation) methods.
8. Do salts/ions influence viscosity?
Viscosity of sodium hyaluronate (HA) will always depend on the ion composition (ion strength) in the final formulation.
9. How do I sterilize my solution containing sodium hyaluronate (HA)?
You can either sterile filtrate HyaCare solutions (up to 0.3 %) through 0.1- or 0.22-µm, or you can use autoclavation e.g. 124 °C (255 °F) for 8 min. The lowest degree of degradation takes place with lowest treatment time and temperature.
Radiation and extensive heat treatment is not recommended as this will degrade HA.
10. How do I get more information about HyaCare?
Please contact us and inform us about your areas of interest. Then we will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from you!
